Product Type
Acatak® is a tick development inhibitor for the long-lasting protection of beef cattle against Cattle Tick (Boophilus microplus)
Properties
Acatak contains a powerful insect growth regulator (IGR), fluazuron 25g/L, which interferes with chitin synthesis of the larval stages of the cattle tick.
Acatak is a ready-to-use pour-on formulation.
Indications
Acatak is used for the strategic control of the cattle tick, Boophilus microplus (including all known acaricide resistant strains) on beef cattle.
Acatak breaks the tick life cycle. When treated with Acatak, immature ticks are unable to molt to the next stage of their life cycle, and no larvae will hatch from eggs laid by treated females.
Acatak not only provides long-term tick protection for cattle (up to 12 weeks*), but it may also help lower the tick burden in pasture.
*Protection periods may be influenced by the environment (tick pressure) and stock factors (growth rate, lactation), Novartis data on file.

Acatak should be applied strategically, initially at the onset of the tick season, preferably prior to tick activity.
Re-treat when ticks are first seen, but not less than 6 weeks from the previous treatment.
Maximum number of treatments per year: 3.
Acatak is absorbed orally via grooming and through the skin. Acatak should be applied in two 7cm wide bands, either side of the spine from shoulder to tail. This maximises absorption and ensures effective concentrations of Acatak are reached.
There is no need to treat suckling calves. Calves will receive adequate protection from their mother.
For tick control recommendations in your area, contact your local department of agriculture.
Withholding Period
MEAT – DO NOT USE less than 42 days before slaughter for human consumption. Calves that have suckled on treated cows must not be slaughtered less than 4 months since the last treatment of the cows.
EXPORT SLAUGHTER INTERVAL – DO NOT slaughter for export less than 42 days after final treatment.
MILK – DO NOT USE on cattle that are producing, or may in the future produce milk for human consumption.
